Hancock County Seal
The Hancock County seal is a symbol of the county's history, values, and community. The county was created in 1820 and named after John Hancock, the first signer of the Declaration of Independence. The seal's imagery reflects what makes Hancock County special. A plant symbolizes the importance of agriculture, a building represents the business and industrial community, and human figures stand for the service provided to the residents of Hancock County. A circular stripe encloses these three regions to represent the past, present, and future of the county, and was designed as a continuing border to show the permanence of our system of government. Together, the images on the seal tell the story of a county built on hard work, community, and a deep connection to its roots.
