I scream, you scream, we all scream for Dietsch’s ice cream! And Findlayites have been screaming for Dietsch’s ice cream and chocolates for nearly 90 years!

 

In the late 1920s Edward Dietsch purchased C.W. Wickham Candy Co. with his brothers, Chris “Bud” and Don “Johnny”, learning the trade alongside him. When Ed passed away unexpectedly in 1934 his wife, Doris, continued the business but when she passed away also at a young age the business was forced to close.

On December 7, 1937 the Dietsch Brothers you know and love opened its doors when Bud and Johnny purchased the local Rogge Bakery Shop. Their youngest brother, Roy “Snitz” helped while he was finishing high school but joined his brothers when he graduated. Together the brothers eliminated the bakery and began producing fine chocolates and ice cream using Ed’s family recipes.

 

During WWII the brothers served our country but their families were able to keep the business running, even though times were tough and sugar was rationed. When the brothers returned safely they worked long hours with their wives helping pack candy and their children working during summer and holiday breaks.

 

Dietsch Brothers has grown over the years, opening a second location in 1974 and expanding both locations several times. It isn't just Findlay natives that love Dietsch's!  It has gained love from around the world from visitors and also celebrities.  Gavin Creel may have been biased but he had his homecoming celebration at Dietsch's after a hometown show because he wanted to show his out-of-town friends what the best ice cream and sweets tasted like.  Actress Bette Midler has shared her love for Dietsch's Chocolate Covered Pretzels on social media, and Dietsch's is always a stop for Ben Roethlisberger when he brings his family for a visit. Dietsch's is a must-stop for everyone, including Ohio governors and even Brutus the Buckeye!

 

After Bud passed away in 1971 and Johnny and Snitz were joined by Snitz’ three sons, Rick, Jeff, and Tom with them becoming the primary owners in 1987, with Jeff’s daughter Erika joining the business in 1998. Since then Rick and Tom have both retired (but you will sometimes still see Tom helping out!) and today Dietsch Brothers is owned by Jeff and Sherrie Dietsch, Erika Dietsch-Brokamp, and her husband, Steve Brokamp.
