Did you know that the Hancock History Mural wasn’t painted by a one single professional artist, but by regular people volunteering their time. The handprints that flow in the Blanchard River are those of volunteers that helped paint the mural and they represent Hancock County’s service-minded and community-driven history.

 

Through Hancock County’s history there have been many service clubs that have made a deep impact. The Kiwanis Club of Findlay (whose volunteers built the playground and swings you hopefully enjoyed while looking at the mural!) and Rotary Club of Findlay have both been in existence for over 100 years! Additionally, Hancock County is host to several Lions Club organizations, Flag City Morning Rotary, Zonta Club, Scouts, Girl Scouts, 4-H, and many, many non-profit organizations that have volunteer opportunities!

 

On the mural you will notice two special handprints marked by a small heart.  These are the handprints of Eunice Minard, aged 104, and James Sheets, aged 1 month, as symbols both of the past and the future and also that you are never too old or too young to make your mark.
