Community Events

Hancock County is home to many events that have been part of life for many years. One of the most popular, and longstanding, events if the Flag City BalloonFest!

Flag City BalloonFest began in 2000 when Findlay local, Dan Clinger, and his son Phil (a hot air balloon pilot!) were looking for ways to celebrate the new millennium. They decided to combine interests and the Flag City BalloonFest was born! The first festival took place with only 15 volunteers, all family and friends of the Clingers, and has now grown to a huge 3 day event. Held annually the first full weekend of August, BalloonFest has balloons (of course!), nightly glows, great food, a kids area, and events like a car show and craft show.

Findlay even has its own balloon! Liberty was pieced and stitched together and took her inaugural flight in 2018. The balloon has a skyline that depicts various spots you will find in Hancock County. University of Findlay’s Old Main, Hancock County Courthouse, Pioneer Sugar Mills, Marathon Petroleum Corporate Headquarters, an oil derrick, the water tank on the North side of town, and farming equipment, all with a flag theme, representing our Flag City, USA nickname (find the American Flag on the mural to learn more!)

Other popular events include Marathon Center for the Performing Arts’ Boogie on the Block and their list of shows that take place annually, Hancock Historical Museum’s Oktoberfest, ArtWalk in Downtown Findlay, The Findlay Show: Armed Forces Day celebration, Village Festivals, Northwest Ohio Railroad Preservation’s Pumpkin Train and North Pole Express, and so much more.
